Fiocchi Range Dynamics 55gr M193 (556M193L) Lot-to-Lot Consistency Test

Strong Performer… or Inconsistent Ammo?

Key Takeaways

  • Fiocchi M193 showed significant lot-to-lot variation in both accuracy and velocity

  • Best-performing lots delivered excellent results (A-ZED ~245–268 yards)

  • Worst-performing lots dropped to ~91–104 A-ZED

  • Velocity differences reached ~200–220 FPS between lots

  • Temperature differences explain some variation—but not nearly all

30-Round Group Results

20” Barrel

Bear Creek Arsenal 20" HBAR

  • Best Lot: 268 A-ZED

  • Second Lot: 163 A-ZED

  • Worst Lot: 104 A-ZED

This is a substantial spread in performance from the same product line. The best lot performed extremely well, while the worst dropped to nearly one-third of that level.

14.5” Hodge Defense

  • Best Lot: 245 A-ZED

  • Second Lot: 173 A-ZED

  • Worst Lot: 91 A-ZED

The same pattern appeared in a completely different barrel, reinforcing that the variation is coming from the ammunition rather than the rifle.

Velocity Data

20” Bear Creek Arsenal HBAR

  • Fastest Lot: 3273 FPS

  • Second Lot: 3131 FPS

  • Slowest Lot: 3075 FPS

This represents nearly a 200 FPS spread between lots.

The slowest lot was tested on a day that was approximately 20°F colder, which does contribute to lower velocity, but it does not fully account for the difference observed.

14.5” Barrel (Hodge Defense)

  • Fastest Lot: 3098 FPS

  • Second Lot: 2926 FPS

  • Slowest Lot: 2881 FPS

Again, a spread of over 200 FPS was observed.

Practical Perspective

If you’re considering Fiocchi M193, it may be worth verifying performance with your specific lot before committing to bulk purchases.

What This Means

Fiocchi M193 is clearly capable of strong performance, some of the best results observed in prior M193 testing

However, the key limitation is consistency.

Performance can vary significantly depending on the lot, affecting both accuracy and velocity in a meaningful way.

For shooters, this introduces a level of uncertainty, particularly when purchasing larger quantities.

Fiocchi M193 sits in an interesting position:

  • It can deliver excellent performance

  • But that performance is not consistent across lots

For some shooters, that tradeoff may be acceptable. For others, consistency may be the higher priority.

Background

In a previous comparison of multiple M193 brands, Fiocchi stood out as one of the best performers.

That naturally raises the question:

How consistent is it from lot to lot?

To answer that, I tested three different lots of Fiocchi M193 across two barrels, focusing on both accuracy (A-ZED) and velocity consistency.

Test Setup

All groups were fired under consistent conditions using the same methodology.

Test Parameters

  • Distance: 100 yards

  • Group size: 30 shots

  • Cold bore start for each group
